Borderline personality disorder affects about 2% of people sometimes even without knowing it. Here is what is important to know about this problem which is often not paid attention.
This is a mental illness which manifests itself in impulsive behavior unstable mood loss of fear and the wrong perception of themselves as individuals. People with PRL often also suffer from depression anxiety disorder or bad habits.
What would you do if a friend says he can not come to your birthday party because of problems at work? Surely you’ll be upset but you ‘ll go into her position and not be offended. But if you have a borderline disorder you can take it as a military action against you or refuse to communicate. And you can decide that she did not deserve to be your friend.
PRL often goes unnoticed although the first manifestations may appear already in adolescence. It affects the way how you perceive yourself and others can cause bouts of anger impulsive behavior irregular self-esteem. The world becomes black and white it is difficult to assess and think through its actions.
Imagine a line of mental health. At one end is a neurotic spectrum with logical and mentally healthy people. On the other a psychotic spectrum where everything is the other way around. People with PRL can move between these extremes.
What are the main symptoms of this disorder?
1. Any ways to avoid being alone ( real or imagined)
The main problem of PRL is the inability to regulate mood and behavior especially in fear of losing contact with a partner. In this case for example pestering him about love or drastically chop contacts not to be abandoned.
2. Unstable aggressive relations
Let’s return to the example of a happy birthday. A person with PRL mood can jump from the desire to see everyone to complete solitude from love to hate. It is difficult for him to completely trust people which does not contribute to the creation of good relations.
3. Improper self-esteem
People with borderline disorders may be emotionally dependent on others because of low self-esteem. Sometimes they love themselves sometimes they hate they change jobs friends even orientation. The most terrible thing is that about 70% of people with PRL have attempted suicide.
4. Impulsive behavior
For example a person can eat a whole pizza engage in unprotected love with an unknown partner take drugs or to buy the thing that he can not afford.
5. Constant feeling of emptiness
People with BPD often suffer from bad moods and the feeling is stronger than those with depression or schizophrenia.
6. Fast switching between emotional states
For example if a partner names another when discussing a favorite color it can cause a tear and panic attack.
7. Sudden fits of rage
A person with PRL from anger can talk nasty things and then do not remember about them at all. Rage can be directed against himself.
What causes it?
The causes of the occurrence of mental disorders have not yet been fully explored. Apparently this is a combination of genetic social and neurological reasons
genetics and family history. If the parent brother or sister suffered from PRL the risk of its occurrence in other relatives increases. This may be due to genetics growing up in the same house with a person who is prone to anger and punishment
natural and social factors. There is a link between trauma violence loneliness and PRL especially if it all began in childhood. Women are more likely to experience trauma so they have this disorder more often
neurological factors. People with BPD noted the weaker brain activity in areas related to the control of behavior and stronger in the fields responsible for anger and fear.
How is it treated? There is no magic medicine for PRL. Most often people learn to control their emotions thoughts and behavior through psychotherapy. Many people with this disorder also suffer from depression post-traumatic syndrome anxiety addiction to drugs. Therefore in many cases it is necessary to connect complex therapy.
